Time to sign Rome Statute

After the royal takeover of Februray 2005, calls for signing Rome Statute has gained momentum, so much so that the parliament passed a binding resolution urging the government to take necessary actions to ratify Rome Statute. However things have not moved a little even after one and a half year.

Rome Statute is a treaty which established the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 2002. Currently 139 states have signed the treaty and 105 have actually ratified this treaty. Rome Statute provides ICC with jurisdiction over three kinds of offences: crime against humanity, genocide and war crimes.

Rule of Law Initiative

American Bar Association (ABA) has a public service initiative called Rule of Law which seeks to promote rule of law as a solution to the worldwide problems of poverty and conflicts. Currently this program is helping regions of Asia, Africa, South America and some parts of Europe. Started in 1991 with its European program, ROL has been providing assistance in drafting anti-corruption action plans and training law enforcement with tools necessary to combat crimes such as money laundering and human trafficking. Human rights promotion is also high on agenda for ROL.
